Athletics: About

How the Project Filled the CART

Critical Thinking:  Students are visual learners.  A constant reminder between classes and during lunch is an effective way to get students' attention about upcoming events and the dates and times of those events.

Advanced Technology: Smart TVs with airplay capabilities, Category 6 wiring for internet and wireless connection. Vivi transmission boxes to the Smart TV

Real-World Problem: Students are NOT remembering or hearing the announcements in the morning because they are conducted over the school intercom system. MOST students today are visual learners and can remember events of importance if they are reminded each time they pass through the hallways or are in the cafeteria. The EAST program came up with the idea of installing Televisions in the hallways and other high-traffic areas within the high school. Now students will be reminded continuously of upcoming events such as Science Club Meetings, Student Council Meetings, ACT information, Upcoming holidays, Semester Exam schedule, and the breakfast/lunch menu for the week.

Teamwork:  The Magnet High School EAST program researched the best methods to create electronic announcements throughout the High school and middle school buildings. Our team collaborated with the High School and Middle School Principals and the Technology coordinator to propose a plan to purchase and install the SMART TVs and Vivi software to complete the project and we proposed this plan to our superintendent and school board for approval.

How the Project Filled the CART

Critical Thinking:  How to improve our Coach’s show through podcasting and incorporating sponsorships from our community partners to advertise for local businesses.  We also wanted to reach out to local professionals across the state of Arkansas and have them give their input about the current state of Arkansas High school football across the state and the professional opportunities available in the fields of broadcasting, podcasting, and live-streaming.

Advanced Technology:

  • The Rhode Caster Pro II

  • Cell phone with Bluetooth capabilities

  • Research backgrounds of guest speakers

  • Category 6 Internet cable

  • Sound Proofing for podcasting room

Real-World Problem:  The major problem we ran into was how could we interview these guest speakers when they were working their normal 9-5 jobs. Dalton researched and found the solution to our problems. The Rode Caster II Podcasting setup.

You can Bluetooth and record your interview via your cell phone. We also wanted to partner with our local community businesses and advertise for them. The MCHS EAST program created sponsorship AD levels in which the businesses could purchase air- time or sponsor our weekly guest speaker. Our EAST programs personally scripted and wrote these commercials for our sponsors.

Teamwork:  We had to collaborate with many people for this podcast to be a success.  We had to contact and line up guest speakers:  Rex Nelson (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette), Kyle Southerland (SB Live Arkansas), Barry Grooms (Hooten’s Arkansas Football), Rick Schaeffer (Drive Time Sports 103.7 The BUZZ), Wes Moore (FOX 16 News Sports, 103.7 FM The BUZZ) along with our sponsors to make sure we had all information needed to create a commercial.

How the Project Filled the CART

Critical Thinking:  The Magnet Cove EAST program saw the need, especially after the pandemic to provide community members, and relatives not living in the Magnet Cove community an opportunity to watch their loved ones play basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball. We also saw an opportunity to advertise for our local hometown businesses such as Panther Pass Grocery and Gas.

Advanced Technology:  Atem Mini Pro Switcher

  • Operating Broadcast Platform (OBS)

  • Canon A11 & A20 Video Cameras

  • HDMI Chords & HDMI Reducers

  •  Berhinger X32 Soundboard

  •  Broadcasting Headsets with XLR chords and connectors

  •  Headsets for communicating

  •  Hollyland 400s Wireless Transmitters

  • Manfrotto Fluid Head Tripods

Real-World Problem: The Magnet Cove High School EAST Broadcasting team is now in year 3 of live-streaming events that are beneficial to promoting the Magnet Cove School District. We have created a following from the Magnet Cove Community by promoting our Magnet Cove High School EAST YouTube page. We have expanded our content from home basketball games to other school functions and activities such as graduation, Academic Signing Day, and Veterans Day Assembly Ceremony.  Magnet Cove High School EAST Broadcast/Livestream team was also invited by Ouachita Sports Digital Network director and Network director Mr. Chris Babb to help run their two GAC Conference basketball games against Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Teamwork:  It takes multiple people to make a livestream / broadcasting successful if done correctly.  Here is the setup we have during a basketball broadcast.

3 cameras, (1 wide shot, 2 ground cameras) Acer Gaming Computer, ATEM mini switcher, Software (Titler 5 scoreboard and graphics)  1 Play-by-Play commentator, 1 color commentator,

7 people total.

Project 4:  Panther Pass Grocery and Gas Food Website

Community Partners:   Panther Pass Grocery & Gas

Owners:  Danny & Carolyn Price, Makayla Hood

How the Project filled the CART

  • Critical Thinking: Many people in the Magnet Cove Community are patrons and those who travel through the Magnet Cove Area and enjoy eating and ordering food from the Panther Pass Grocery & Gas.  The only problem is if you go during their busy times which are in the mornings, at lunch, and after school.  It would be nice if there was an app to order and pay for your food ahead of time.  There are quite a few teachers at the Magnet Cove School District who order their lunches from the Panther Pass, but only have a limited amount of time to get and eat their lunch before the lunch break is over. Brianna and Riley who are avid coders, decided it would be a great idea to create a website that would allow people to order and pay for their meals online through the service that Panther Pass uses.

Advanced Technology:

  • Word Press

  • Menu for Panther Pass Grocery & Gas

  • Pictures of Menu items

  • Clover code for Panther Pass Grocery & Gas

  •  Promotion for APP

Real-World Problem:   Junior, Brianna Gilmore pitched the idea of creating a website for the local convenience store with a wide variety of foods on its menu. The Panther Pass is the only place the patrons of Magnet Cove can order delicious food without having to travel to Malvern or Hot Springs. The Panther Pass serves different types of meals and has weekly specials. There are quite a few teachers at the Magnet Cove School District who order their lunches from the Panther Pass, but only have a limited amount of time to get and eat their lunch before the lunch break is over. Brianna, an avid coder, decided it would be a great idea to create a website allowing people to order and pay for their meals through the website service Panther Pass uses. Brianna and Riley went and pitched the idea to owners Danny and Carolyn Price, and Mikayla to see if this would be something they would be interested in doing. They said "Absolutely"

Teamwork:  Brianna has done a phenomenal job of partnering together to figure out the best app and service to use for the Panther Pass Grocery and Gas Cafe menu app.  They have compiled pictures from different menu items and made it so that you could check out like you do at Sonic or any other food chain restaurant.

Project 5: Magnet Cove High School Veterans Day Luncheon                      sponsored by Magnet Cove High School EAST

Community Partners:   Mr. Mike Samons Navy Veteran (Naval Academy Graduate 1963)

                                                     American Legion Post 11

Magnet Cove School Distrrict Superintendant, Danny Thomas

Ms. Patsy Whiddon, Magnet Cove FACS Teacher & Students

How the Project Filled the CART

Critical Thinking:  The Magnet Cove High School EAST program has always supported our local veterans and their families.  Our facilitator, Shane Hartsell is an Army Ranger and veteran.  We collaborated with Ms. Patsy Whiddon's Family and Consumer Science class to fix a meal on Veterans Day and invited Mr. Mike Samons, Naval Academy Graduate of 1963, and other local veterans and their families to celebrate with us. Some of our veterans within the community have since passed over the last year and we remember them and their families.

Advanced Technology:

  • Canon T4 and T7 DSLR Cameras

  • Podium

  • Veterans Day Slideshow

  • Wireless Lapel mics

  • Military Branches Flags

  • Audio Mixer

Real-World Problem: Local Veterans gathered at Magnet Cove High School Library / Media Center for a Veterans Appreciation Luncheon sponsored by the Magnet Cove High School EAST program in partnership with MS. Patsy Whiddon's Food, Safety, and Nutrition class which cooked and served the meal to the veterans. Mike Samons gave a charge about the price of freedom and how thankful he was for the veterans who have served, are currently serving, and will serve in the future. We should honor veterans every day and NOT ONLY one single day a year. Take the time to listen to these guys who gave their time and sacrificed time with their families so that we could live in peace and freedom.

Teamwork: The EAST Program at Magnet Cove High School has been collaborating with Ms Whiddon's FACS classes to prepare a meal for the veterans. The goal is to let the veterans know how much we appreciate them and the continued example they have set for others to follow. This also allows Ms. Whiddon’s students to hone their cooking and serving skills while providing them with a sense of accomplishment.
